Narrative:
An IFR clearance was issued to an aircraft off dtn on a clearance frequency. After experiencing a radio failure, the pilot wished to depart VFR and pick up his clearance later. A few mins later, the aircraft was observed departing dtn turning sharply into barksdale AFB airspace. An A10 aircraft in barksdale AFB airspace had to take evasive action. With the recent growth of the shreveport area, dtn traffic has greatly increased. In my opinion, dtn is much too busy to be an uncontrolled field. With the very close proximity of dtn to shv and bad AFB, future events such as this will definitely occur. Solution: reopen dtn tower.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A GA PLT DEPARTED DTN ARPT VFR AND TURNED INTO THE ADJACENT MIL ARPT CLASS C AIRSPACE WITHOUT AUTH. THE ACFT CAME IN CLOSE PROX TO A MIL A10 WHILE IN CLASS C AIRSPACE CAUSING THE MIL ACFT TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION. THE RPTR BELIEVES THAT DTN SHOULD BE A CTLED ARPT DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF TFC AND PROX TO MIL ACTIVITY.
Narrative: AN IFR CLRNC WAS ISSUED TO AN ACFT OFF DTN ON A CLRNC FREQ. AFTER EXPERIENCING A RADIO FAILURE, THE PLT WISHED TO DEPART VFR AND PICK UP HIS CLRNC LATER. A FEW MINS LATER, THE ACFT WAS OBSERVED DEPARTING DTN TURNING SHARPLY INTO BARKSDALE AFB AIRSPACE. AN A10 ACFT IN BARKSDALE AFB AIRSPACE HAD TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION. WITH THE RECENT GROWTH OF THE SHREVEPORT AREA, DTN TFC HAS GREATLY INCREASED. IN MY OPINION, DTN IS MUCH TOO BUSY TO BE AN UNCTLED FIELD. WITH THE VERY CLOSE PROX OF DTN TO SHV AND BAD AFB, FUTURE EVENTS SUCH AS THIS WILL DEFINITELY OCCUR. SOLUTION: REOPEN DTN TWR.
