Narrative:
I was climbing to 3000 ft VFR in class C airspace which was my cleared altitude. I was given a frequency change from tower to departure control at approximately 2800 ft and when I switched frequency I overshot my altitude by approximately 500 ft. I immediately contacted departure control and got cleared to 4500 ft.
