Narrative:
Taxiing into gate at philadelphia international airport at night, captain made a 90 degree left turn from taxiway into gate area. I (first officer) visually cleared the right side of aircraft. Captain slowed the aircraft and visually cleared left side (as much as possible from cockpit) to ensure clearance with a parked saab SF340. Captain said airplane was clear as best as he could discern from his vantage point, and ramp agent continued to marshall us straight ahead, indicating positive clearance with the saab. A few seconds later, we felt what appeared to be a dip pot hole in the ramp. After stopping the aircraft, captain got off aircraft to investigate. He discovered that agent had marshalled aircraft forward with inadequate clearance (with the saab) causing the winglet of our aircraft to scrape outer wing/wingtip of saab. Several inches from the top and inner portion of winglet torn off -- damage to saab unknown. Several wing walkers/agents standing in front of the parked saab during whole occurrence -- none gave marshaller any indication to stop/halt aircraft.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CAPT OF A CANADAIR REGIONAL JET, CL65, STRUCK THE L WINGLET ON THE WINGTIP OF A PARKED SAAB 340 DURING GATE PARKING. PORTION OF THE L WINGLET WAS TORN OFF DURING THE INCIDENT. THE STATION MARSHALL DID NOT SIGNAL TO STOP THE ACFT OR ANY OF THE OTHER NEARBY GND PERSONNEL.
Narrative: TAXIING INTO GATE AT PHILADELPHIA INTL ARPT AT NIGHT, CAPT MADE A 90 DEG L TURN FROM TXWY INTO GATE AREA. I (FO) VISUALLY CLRED THE R SIDE OF ACFT. CAPT SLOWED THE ACFT AND VISUALLY CLRED L SIDE (AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE FROM COCKPIT) TO ENSURE CLRNC WITH A PARKED SAAB SF340. CAPT SAID AIRPLANE WAS CLR AS BEST AS HE COULD DISCERN FROM HIS VANTAGE POINT, AND RAMP AGENT CONTINUED TO MARSHALL US STRAIGHT AHEAD, INDICATING POSITIVE CLRNC WITH THE SAAB. A FEW SECONDS LATER, WE FELT WHAT APPEARED TO BE A DIP POT HOLE IN THE RAMP. AFTER STOPPING THE ACFT, CAPT GOT OFF ACFT TO INVESTIGATE. HE DISCOVERED THAT AGENT HAD MARSHALLED ACFT FORWARD WITH INADEQUATE CLRNC (WITH THE SAAB) CAUSING THE WINGLET OF OUR ACFT TO SCRAPE OUTER WING/WINGTIP OF SAAB. SEVERAL INCHES FROM THE TOP AND INNER PORTION OF WINGLET TORN OFF -- DAMAGE TO SAAB UNKNOWN. SEVERAL WING WALKERS/AGENTS STANDING IN FRONT OF THE PARKED SAAB DURING WHOLE OCCURRENCE -- NONE GAVE MARSHALLER ANY INDICATION TO STOP/HALT ACFT.
