Narrative:
Prior to departure from richmond airport, I asked the guy manning the unicom/CTAF radio if there were any jumpers in the air (there is a jump school on the field). He said no. Went outside, and prior to getting in the airplane, I scanned overhead for possible jumpers/jump planes. None found or heard. Monitored CTAF frequency prior to and during taxi and runup, heard no jump announcements. Scanned sky during taxi and before takeoff, made departure announcement on CTAF prior to takeoff. Still no jumpers visually or announcement from any jump planes. After rotation and about 20 ft AGL, the sky above us had a number of parachutes open. We stayed low over runway until past where jumpers were. No near miss, estimate lowest jumper was 2500 ft from us vertically. Heard no announcement whatsoever of jumpers, heard and saw no jump plane in the air prior to release.

Title: PA28 ACFT DEPARTING ARPT CHKED WITH UNICOM CTAF IF JUMPERS WERE IN VICINITY TO WHICH THE OPERATOR INDICATED NEGATIVE. RPTR SCANNED FOR JUMPERS PRIOR TO DEP, BUT JUST AFTER TKOF SAW JUMPERS DSNDING TO THE ARPT AND RPTR STAYED LOW TO STAY OUT OF THEIR WAY.
