Narrative:
During takeoff roll on runway 24L of lax airport we experienced a thumping vibration and a loud bang which seemed to come from the right side of the aircraft. At this time the captain executed an abort below V1 approximately 145-150 KTS. I informed the tower that air carrier aborted on the takeoff roll and requested the emergency vehicles. Flight engineer xx announced to the cabin that we aborted the takeoff and to remain seated. The aircraft came to a steady stop, no yawing was encountered. The right engine instruments indicated that it had failed. No cockpit fire indications were present so we accomplished shutdown procedures. Several times I asked the tower if they saw any fire or smoke but was unable to receive an answer from them. Upon arrival of crash crew, they informed us that they saw some smoke, so we, the cockpit crew proceeded with fire fighting procedures on the #2 engine. We fired both bottles but #2 did not discharge after several tries. Crash crew advised us that no smoke or fire were present. Captain notified crash crew of overheated brakes. They proceeded to cool them. Upon arrival of a requested tow tug, we were towed to remote area xx, passenger were deplaned. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated no information was available on the engine failure other than the visual indication of tire thread ingestion on the damaged inlet cowl and fan blades. The reporter said most of the crew including the reporter has been furloughed and information may not be available.

Title: AN AIRBUS 300 REJECTED TKOF AT 145-150 KTS DUE TO A LOUD BANG AND A THUMPING VIBRATION. AFTER STOPPING IT WAS DISCOVERED THE R ENG HAD FAILED.
Narrative: DURING TKOF ROLL ON RWY 24L OF LAX ARPT WE EXPERIENCED A THUMPING VIBRATION AND A LOUD BANG WHICH SEEMED TO COME FROM THE R SIDE OF THE ACFT. AT THIS TIME THE CAPT EXECUTED AN ABORT BELOW V1 APPROX 145-150 KTS. I INFORMED THE TWR THAT ACR ABORTED ON THE TKOF ROLL AND REQUESTED THE EMER VEHICLES. FE XX ANNOUNCED TO THE CABIN THAT WE ABORTED THE TKOF AND TO REMAIN SEATED. THE ACFT CAME TO A STEADY STOP, NO YAWING WAS ENCOUNTERED. THE R ENG INSTS INDICATED THAT IT HAD FAILED. NO COCKPIT FIRE INDICATIONS WERE PRESENT SO WE ACCOMPLISHED SHUTDOWN PROCS. SEVERAL TIMES I ASKED THE TWR IF THEY SAW ANY FIRE OR SMOKE BUT WAS UNABLE TO RECEIVE AN ANSWER FROM THEM. UPON ARR OF CRASH CREW, THEY INFORMED US THAT THEY SAW SOME SMOKE, SO WE, THE COCKPIT CREW PROCEEDED WITH FIRE FIGHTING PROCS ON THE #2 ENG. WE FIRED BOTH BOTTLES BUT #2 DID NOT DISCHARGE AFTER SEVERAL TRIES. CRASH CREW ADVISED US THAT NO SMOKE OR FIRE WERE PRESENT. CAPT NOTIFIED CRASH CREW OF OVERHEATED BRAKES. THEY PROCEEDED TO COOL THEM. UPON ARR OF A REQUESTED TOW TUG, WE WERE TOWED TO REMOTE AREA XX, PAX WERE DEPLANED. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED NO INFO WAS AVAILABLE ON THE ENG FAILURE OTHER THAN THE VISUAL INDICATION OF TIRE THREAD INGESTION ON THE DAMAGED INLET COWL AND FAN BLADES. THE RPTR SAID MOST OF THE CREW INCLUDING THE RPTR HAS BEEN FURLOUGHED AND INFO MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE.
