Narrative:
While climbing on the autoplt to FL270, was with a new first officer and working radar around WX. The autoplt captured altitude. I glanced at the green altitude capture and continued to work radar through storms. The autoplt started climbing and I didn't notice until the 300 ft horn went off. ATC asked our altitude and we stated leveling at FL270. Greater attention to altitude and we will have the autoplt fixed.
