Narrative:
On descent into stl, we were on a radar vector to intercept an outbound radial and given a crossing restr. At the time I was getting the ATIS for stl and scanning the radar for WX returns. The first officer informed me that we may not make our crossing restr. I called ATC and stated we may not make the crossing restr and requested relief. We did cross the fix approximately 2000 ft high. There was no conflict. To prevent a recurrence, I will rededicate my task priorities to checking and xchking altitude crossing restrs. Additional contributing factors: 1) WX in the area (south). 2) obtaining the ATIS. 3) we were on a vector to intercept the radial. The intercept heading made the crossing restr more confusing as we were not yet established on the radial, making the DME more difficult to interpret.

Title: AN ACR MLG FLC REALIZED THAT THEY WERE NOT GOING TO MAKE THEIR XING RESTR AND THEY REQUESTED RELIEF FROM THE RESTR. THE CAPT SAID THAT HE WAS DISTR BY OTHER DUTIES. NO APPARENT CONFLICT.
Narrative: ON DSCNT INTO STL, WE WERE ON A RADAR VECTOR TO INTERCEPT AN OUTBOUND RADIAL AND GIVEN A XING RESTR. AT THE TIME I WAS GETTING THE ATIS FOR STL AND SCANNING THE RADAR FOR WX RETURNS. THE FO INFORMED ME THAT WE MAY NOT MAKE OUR XING RESTR. I CALLED ATC AND STATED WE MAY NOT MAKE THE XING RESTR AND REQUESTED RELIEF. WE DID CROSS THE FIX APPROX 2000 FT HIGH. THERE WAS NO CONFLICT. TO PREVENT A RECURRENCE, I WILL REDEDICATE MY TASK PRIORITIES TO CHKING AND XCHKING ALT XING RESTRS. ADDITIONAL CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: 1) WX IN THE AREA (S). 2) OBTAINING THE ATIS. 3) WE WERE ON A VECTOR TO INTERCEPT THE RADIAL. THE INTERCEPT HDG MADE THE XING RESTR MORE CONFUSING AS WE WERE NOT YET ESTABLISHED ON THE RADIAL, MAKING THE DME MORE DIFFICULT TO INTERPRET.
