Narrative:
Assigned 9000 ft in control area, IFR in building cumulus. I allowed altitude change to go unnoticed to 9800 ft. Controller advised me we had agreed on 9000 ft. Previously, asked for higher to clear turbulence in building cumulus. Conditions were turbulent, moderate to severe, with vertical wind shear. Corrected immediately to 9000 ft.
