Narrative:
Landed without tower clearance. Still on approach control upon landing. Missed or never got handoff from approach controller to tower. Was cleared to a visual on runway 27L. Became aware of oversight upon landing. Realized then we still had approach control frequency. Crew became distraction by commenting on landmarks as we approached, ie, notre dame university and distant view of chicago. Best corrective action is to adhere to sterile cockpit at all times during approach. Contacted tower facility by telephone afterwards. Controller stated no conflict resulted. Supplemental information from acn 381530: ATC was very busy and we never heard 'switch to tower.' also, we were on a short base to final when cleared for visual and got busy performing normal checklist items. Also, some non pertinent conversation was made mins before landing.

Title: FLC OF A JETSTREAM 41 LANDS AT SBN WITHOUT CLRNC. FO, PNF, SAYS THEY NEVER RECEIVED THE HDOF. BOTH PLTS CITE FLC'S DISTR AND THEIR EXTEMPORANEOUS CONVERSATION AS CAUSAL.
Narrative: LANDED WITHOUT TWR CLRNC. STILL ON APCH CTL UPON LNDG. MISSED OR NEVER GOT HDOF FROM APCH CTLR TO TWR. WAS CLRED TO A VISUAL ON RWY 27L. BECAME AWARE OF OVERSIGHT UPON LNDG. REALIZED THEN WE STILL HAD APCH CTL FREQ. CREW BECAME DISTR BY COMMENTING ON LANDMARKS AS WE APCHED, IE, NOTRE DAME UNIVERSITY AND DISTANT VIEW OF CHICAGO. BEST CORRECTIVE ACTION IS TO ADHERE TO STERILE COCKPIT AT ALL TIMES DURING APCH. CONTACTED TWR FACILITY BY TELEPHONE AFTERWARDS. CTLR STATED NO CONFLICT RESULTED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 381530: ATC WAS VERY BUSY AND WE NEVER HEARD 'SWITCH TO TWR.' ALSO, WE WERE ON A SHORT BASE TO FINAL WHEN CLRED FOR VISUAL AND GOT BUSY PERFORMING NORMAL CHKLIST ITEMS.
