Narrative:
Precautionary landing due to partial power loss and engine roughness. The condition started suddenly while in cruise at 5500 ft MSL. Performed emergency checklist items which did not improve the engine condition. When the mixture was richened, the engine lost full power. Partial power was restored when leaned back to cruise setting. The other checklist items did not restore the initial power loss. I then diverted to a nearby airport where a safe landing was made. Subsequently, the FBO determined that a fuel injector was plugged. As a further note, the approach to landing was unusually steep due to non standard power settings. The high approach ended with a normal touchdown near or just past midfield. I was tempted to initiate a go around but landed because of the obvious engine problems and safe looking overrun area past the runway. I normally do not land that far down a runway, so the perception was that I would overrun it. Nevertheless, upon touchdown, I applied prompt braking and stopped easily without excessive braking.

Title: PLT OF COMMANDER 112 HAS ENG ROUGHNESS WITH PARTIAL PWR LOSS. PRECAUTIONARY LNDG AT NEARBY ARPT EXECUTED.
Narrative: PRECAUTIONARY LNDG DUE TO PARTIAL PWR LOSS AND ENG ROUGHNESS. THE CONDITION STARTED SUDDENLY WHILE IN CRUISE AT 5500 FT MSL. PERFORMED EMER CHKLIST ITEMS WHICH DID NOT IMPROVE THE ENG CONDITION. WHEN THE MIXTURE WAS RICHENED, THE ENG LOST FULL PWR. PARTIAL PWR WAS RESTORED WHEN LEANED BACK TO CRUISE SETTING. THE OTHER CHKLIST ITEMS DID NOT RESTORE THE INITIAL PWR LOSS. I THEN DIVERTED TO A NEARBY ARPT WHERE A SAFE LNDG WAS MADE. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE FBO DETERMINED THAT A FUEL INJECTOR WAS PLUGGED. AS A FURTHER NOTE, THE APCH TO LNDG WAS UNUSUALLY STEEP DUE TO NON STANDARD PWR SETTINGS. THE HIGH APCH ENDED WITH A NORMAL TOUCHDOWN NEAR OR JUST PAST MIDFIELD. I WAS TEMPTED TO INITIATE A GAR BUT LANDED BECAUSE OF THE OBVIOUS ENG PROBS AND SAFE LOOKING OVERRUN AREA PAST THE RWY. I NORMALLY DO NOT LAND THAT FAR DOWN A RWY, SO THE PERCEPTION WAS THAT I WOULD OVERRUN IT. NEVERTHELESS, UPON TOUCHDOWN, I APPLIED PROMPT BRAKING AND STOPPED EASILY WITHOUT EXCESSIVE BRAKING.
