Narrative:

During pushback from gate xx at mdw, flight was inadvertently pushed onto taxiway Y. During pushback, mdw ground control requested that our aircraft, a DC9, remain clear of taxiway Y and this information was relayed by the captain to the tug driver through the aircraft interphone. When reviewing the airport depiction chart for mdw, no distinction can be made between the ramp area for terminal X and the boundary for taxiway Y, and this area cannot be seen from the aircraft cockpit. In addition, it was learned after disconnect from the tug that a towbar pin had broken and the aircraft could not be turned into the alleyway adjacent to terminal X. This information, however, was not relayed to the cockpit crew or to mdw ground control.
