Narrative:

I was departing from newport news airport for the last leg of my solo cross country flight back to ngu. The phf ground controller had given me a radio frequency I was not familiar with (125.2). I checked my charts and it was not phf's tower. After I had taxied to the runway, I radioed the phf tower for takeoff clearance. As I was climbing I set my course as per the phf tower. I knew my distance was 15 NM to ngu and my altitude was to be 1200 ft. As I was leveling off I realized I had climbed 100 ft higher and quickly corrected my altitude back to 1200 ft. When I radioed ngu tower for clearance to land the controller informed me that norfolk airport had phoned them and wanted me to radio them at 125.2. I radioed norfolk, but the controller said he did not need to speak to me. I reset my radio to ngu frequency for landing clearance. My flight instructor was at the airport when I completed my flight. I informed him of the situation and that I was worried that I may have violated norfolk airport's airspace. He requested I complete this form and inform you of the situation. I feel I made quick decisions, took appropriate action and will ensure my altitude is correct in future flts. As a student pilot, I quickly learn from my mistakes -- and hope to not have to write to you explaining any more sits.

Title: STUDENT PLT ON FIRST XCOUNTRY FLT FEARS THAT ACFT MAY HAVE ENTERED THE NORFOLK, VA, CLASS C AIRSPACE WITHOUT PERMISSION. ACFT'S ALT WAS CLOSE TO THE BASE OF THE CLASS C AIRSPACE AND ORF APCH CTLR FREQ WAS NOT BEING MONITORED.

Narrative: I WAS DEPARTING FROM NEWPORT NEWS ARPT FOR THE LAST LEG OF MY SOLO XCOUNTRY FLT BACK TO NGU. THE PHF GND CTLR HAD GIVEN ME A RADIO FREQ I WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH (125.2). I CHKED MY CHARTS AND IT WAS NOT PHF'S TWR. AFTER I HAD TAXIED TO THE RWY, I RADIOED THE PHF TWR FOR TKOF CLRNC. AS I WAS CLBING I SET MY COURSE AS PER THE PHF TWR. I KNEW MY DISTANCE WAS 15 NM TO NGU AND MY ALT WAS TO BE 1200 FT. AS I WAS LEVELING OFF I REALIZED I HAD CLBED 100 FT HIGHER AND QUICKLY CORRECTED MY ALT BACK TO 1200 FT. WHEN I RADIOED NGU TWR FOR CLRNC TO LAND THE CTLR INFORMED ME THAT NORFOLK ARPT HAD PHONED THEM AND WANTED ME TO RADIO THEM AT 125.2. I RADIOED NORFOLK, BUT THE CTLR SAID HE DID NOT NEED TO SPEAK TO ME. I RESET MY RADIO TO NGU FREQ FOR LNDG CLRNC. MY FLT INSTRUCTOR WAS AT THE ARPT WHEN I COMPLETED MY FLT. I INFORMED HIM OF THE SIT AND THAT I WAS WORRIED THAT I MAY HAVE VIOLATED NORFOLK ARPT'S AIRSPACE. HE REQUESTED I COMPLETE THIS FORM AND INFORM YOU OF THE SIT. I FEEL I MADE QUICK DECISIONS, TOOK APPROPRIATE ACTION AND WILL ENSURE MY ALT IS CORRECT IN FUTURE FLTS. AS A STUDENT PLT, I QUICKLY LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES -- AND HOPE TO NOT HAVE TO WRITE TO YOU EXPLAINING ANY MORE SITS.
