Narrative:
On IFR flight plan from 2a0 to sus on oct/xa/97 at approximately AB00. As PIC I was instructed by ZKC to descend from FL230 to cross 10 mi east of glass intersection at 12000 ft. On descent I encountered rime icing from FL190 to 13000 ft and gave ZKC a PIREP while also listening to sus ATIS. ZKC switched me to stl approach. In descent, the altitude preselect was set to 11000 ft either inadvertently or assigned. On initial call to stl approach I requested lower while still in descent to get into VMC. The icing, time to give PIREP and answer passenger questions diverted my attention. Some xmissions to and from ZKC by me and other aircraft were blocked. Stl responded by asking altitude and I responded by stating, '11000 ft, request lower, I have the spirit of st louis ATIS.' stl approach asked who assigned 11000 ft and I answered ZKC. I stated I wouldn't have set in 11000 ft if it wasn't assigned, and that I hope I didn't mess up. Stl approach did not act concerned, no heading or immediate altitude changes wre ordered and he did not confirm I was not assigned 11000 ft. No other aircraft were involved and I was not in the class B. With all the other conversations going on I don't know if I was not assigned 11000 ft but his initial question concerned me that I may have inadvertently descended through an assigned altitude.

WITH ALL THE OTHER CONVERSATIONS GOING ON I DON'T KNOW IF I WAS NOT ASSIGNED 11000 FT BUT HIS INITIAL QUESTION CONCERNED ME THAT I MAY HAVE INADVERTENTLY DSNDED THROUGH AN ASSIGNED ALT.
