Narrative:
Departed reno runway 16L IFR via reno 2 departure. Passing through 10000 ft, started a left turn direct fmg. Missed lost communication highlight. About 90 degrees into left turn, approach called asking why we were turning left. Replied per reno 2 departure. Controller told me that we were doing the lost communication procedure. I requested continued left turn direct squaw valley (swr). After frequency change to ZOA, we received request to contact reno departure.
