Narrative:
Aircraft was cleared to cross marit intersection at and maintain 10000 ft MSL. I did not realize that FMS had gone into dr mode and we were 7 mi from crossing restr instead of the 20 mi showing on the FMS. PNF realized problem when setting up outbound radial on #2 navigation receiver and saw distance to tnv and intersection did not add up with FMS distance. I increased rate of descent but missed the crossing restr by several hundred ft. Contributing factor was that aircraft had just come out of paint shop and the FMS had interference from paint on antennas.

Title: FLC OF A CPR JET FAILED TO MAKE A DSCNT XING ALT RESTR DUE TO A LACK OF MONITORING THE FMS MODE AND ACFT ACTUAL POS DURING DSCNT.
Narrative: ACFT WAS CLRED TO CROSS MARIT INTXN AT AND MAINTAIN 10000 FT MSL. I DID NOT REALIZE THAT FMS HAD GONE INTO DR MODE AND WE WERE 7 MI FROM XING RESTR INSTEAD OF THE 20 MI SHOWING ON THE FMS.
