Narrative:
Takeoff runway 27L lhr, first officer flying. At approximately V1 heard loud bang and felt strong vibration. Suspected blown nose gear tire. Aircraft performed well on climb to 6000 ft. Cabin filled with smoke on lift-off. At 6000 ft noticed oil pressure in red at 56 psi, oil quantity falling. Call from tower said air carrier X saw large ball of fire erupt from right engine followed by clean exhaust. Oil quantity now zero. Shut down right engine. Declared emergency. Told london we would like to dump fuel. Cleared to 7000 ft and dumped 100000 pounds of fuel. Returned to lhr and landed runway 27R under red alert. Landing uneventful. Crew did a great job. During emergency sent first officer to cabin to check on smoke. Smoke dissipating but first officer could not determine source of smoke by smell. Spoke to flight attendant on the ground and she also could not determine source of smoke by smell. Landed at XX22Z 460000 gross weight (maximum landing weight), prepared cabin for evacuate/evacuation. Unable to contact dispatch directly, relayed through company.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF A B777-200 HEARD A BIG BANG AT V1 DURING TKOF AND CONTINUED TKOF AND CLB TO 7000 FT. AT WHICH TIME 1 ENG WAS SHUT DOWN, DUE TO A LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE AND QUANTITY, EMER DECLARED, FUEL DUMPED TO LNDG WT AND A RETURN TO LAND WAS MADE. ANOTHER ACR FLC RPTED A BIG BALL OF FIRE EMITTED FROM THE ENG DURING TKOF AND CABIN RPTED A SMOKE SMELL IN THE CABIN.
Narrative: TKOF RWY 27L LHR, FO FLYING. AT APPROX V1 HEARD LOUD BANG AND FELT STRONG VIBRATION. SUSPECTED BLOWN NOSE GEAR TIRE. ACFT PERFORMED WELL ON CLB TO 6000 FT. CABIN FILLED WITH SMOKE ON LIFT-OFF. AT 6000 FT NOTICED OIL PRESSURE IN RED AT 56 PSI, OIL QUANTITY FALLING. CALL FROM TWR SAID ACR X SAW LARGE BALL OF FIRE ERUPT FROM R ENG FOLLOWED BY CLEAN EXHAUST. OIL QUANTITY NOW ZERO. SHUT DOWN R ENG. DECLARED EMER. TOLD LONDON WE WOULD LIKE TO DUMP FUEL. CLRED TO 7000 FT AND DUMPED 100000 LBS OF FUEL. RETURNED TO LHR AND LANDED RWY 27R UNDER RED ALERT. LNDG UNEVENTFUL. CREW DID A GREAT JOB. DURING EMER SENT FO TO CABIN TO CHK ON SMOKE. SMOKE DISSIPATING BUT FO COULD NOT DETERMINE SOURCE OF SMOKE BY SMELL. SPOKE TO FLT ATTENDANT ON THE GND AND SHE ALSO COULD NOT DETERMINE SOURCE OF SMOKE BY SMELL. LANDED AT XX22Z 460000 GROSS WT (MAX LNDG WT), PREPARED CABIN FOR EVAC. UNABLE TO CONTACT DISPATCH DIRECTLY, RELAYED THROUGH COMPANY.
