Narrative:

Flight departing cpr for den had 34 people on board. Many were hunters. We were given the bag count by the ramper in cpr at 40 forward and 35 aft. I knew we had hunters on board and I assumed some boxes of meat, so I queried the ramper if the overweight bags and boxes were taken into account. I was told that many of the bags and boxes were counted as 2 or 3 bags each and that the weight in the back equaled the count I was given. I checked the index and we were on the aft edge of the index, but still within the envelope. The flight was completed safely without incident. After deplaning in den, the ramper asked me about the count of bags in back. We counted and there were 75 bags back there, 28-30 overweight -- many over 50 pounds. The boxes (around 15) were each between 68-72 pounds. By the ramper's estimate we had about 2700 pounds in the back, much of which was in the aft aft. This put us 700 pounds over the cargo limit and well aft of the safe center of gravity for the aircraft. Fortunately the flight was operated without incident.

Title: CAPT OF MDT DISCOVERS THE BAGGAGE COUNT IS SERIOUSLY IN ERROR WHEN RAMP AGENT AT DEST ARPT NOTICES THE NUMBER OF BAGS IN THE AFT AREA. ACFT WAS 700 LBS OVERWT AND WELL AFT OF CTR OF GRAVITY.

Narrative: FLT DEPARTING CPR FOR DEN HAD 34 PEOPLE ON BOARD. MANY WERE HUNTERS. WE WERE GIVEN THE BAG COUNT BY THE RAMPER IN CPR AT 40 FORWARD AND 35 AFT. I KNEW WE HAD HUNTERS ON BOARD AND I ASSUMED SOME BOXES OF MEAT, SO I QUERIED THE RAMPER IF THE OVERWT BAGS AND BOXES WERE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT. I WAS TOLD THAT MANY OF THE BAGS AND BOXES WERE COUNTED AS 2 OR 3 BAGS EACH AND THAT THE WT IN THE BACK EQUALED THE COUNT I WAS GIVEN. I CHKED THE INDEX AND WE WERE ON THE AFT EDGE OF THE INDEX, BUT STILL WITHIN THE ENVELOPE. THE FLT WAS COMPLETED SAFELY WITHOUT INCIDENT. AFTER DEPLANING IN DEN, THE RAMPER ASKED ME ABOUT THE COUNT OF BAGS IN BACK. WE COUNTED AND THERE WERE 75 BAGS BACK THERE, 28-30 OVERWT -- MANY OVER 50 LBS. THE BOXES (AROUND 15) WERE EACH BTWN 68-72 LBS. BY THE RAMPER'S ESTIMATE WE HAD ABOUT 2700 LBS IN THE BACK, MUCH OF WHICH WAS IN THE AFT AFT. THIS PUT US 700 LBS OVER THE CARGO LIMIT AND WELL AFT OF THE SAFE CTR OF GRAVITY FOR THE ACFT. FORTUNATELY THE FLT WAS OPERATED WITHOUT INCIDENT.
