Narrative:
While on approach for runway 36R at cvg, company aircraft overshot the runway 36L final and caused a traffic conflict. TCASII immediately reacted by commanding a climb (3000 FPM?). We reacted immediately, avoiding the intruder and advised ATC at the same time. ATC advised us that he should not have done that (the aircraft). Once acquired visually, we returned to our previous altitude. (TCASII chalks up another save!) if we had been a cargo aircraft or tcasi equipped, the outcome may have been different. ATC and/or ourselves probably would not have detected the threat in time. The aircraft closure rate was very high.
