Narrative:

Student pilot, during a cross country flight became disoriented and mistook vrb for imm. While self announcing and positioning to land he had a conflict with an aircraft within close proximity. He landed at vrb without a clearance, plus taxied without clearance. The instructor in the aircraft that had a near miss talked with the student. The student, also, talked with the tower. The problem may have been solved if he was receiving flight following with miami 132.25 or contacted FSS for a DF steer or used 121.5 for assistance.

Title: INSTRUCTOR RPT REGARDING STUDENT PLT ON A SOLO XCOUNTRY WHO IS DISORIENTED AND LANDS AT A TWR CTLED ARPT WITHOUT CLRNC BELIEVING IT TO BE THE NON TWR ARPT AT WHICH HE INTENDED TO LAND.

Narrative: STUDENT PLT, DURING A XCOUNTRY FLT BECAME DISORIENTED AND MISTOOK VRB FOR IMM. WHILE SELF ANNOUNCING AND POSITIONING TO LAND HE HAD A CONFLICT WITH AN ACFT WITHIN CLOSE PROX. HE LANDED AT VRB WITHOUT A CLRNC, PLUS TAXIED WITHOUT CLRNC. THE INSTRUCTOR IN THE ACFT THAT HAD A NEAR MISS TALKED WITH THE STUDENT. THE STUDENT, ALSO, TALKED WITH THE TWR. THE PROB MAY HAVE BEEN SOLVED IF HE WAS RECEIVING FLT FOLLOWING WITH MIAMI 132.25 OR CONTACTED FSS FOR A DF STEER OR USED 121.5 FOR ASSISTANCE.
