Narrative:

Takeoff runway 25L at lax, normal departure (loop 1) daggett transition. At approximately 6 DME and on approximately 225 degree radial lax (heading was 235 degrees) socal departure gave me a left turn to 070 degree heading. Normally it is 'turn left to comply with loop 1 restrs, ie, 10000 ft at the lax VOR.' at this time I thought the controller was giving me the turn early due to traffic or changing to the laxx 2 departure. I knew at 6 DME and 463000 pounds I couldn't make lax VOR at 10000 ft this close in. Climbing through 5200 ft the controller cleared me to turn left and resume the loop 1 departure. At 5700 ft I knew we could not comply with the 10 KT lax VOR restr. I advised socal immediately. He (controller) seemed 'miffed' but gave me a climb vector of 090 degrees for approximately 5 mi then left to 000 degrees to resume the daggett transition. Nothing else was said. Conclusion: I needed to use the full 10 NM allowed in order to meet the altitude restr at lax. Had I known what the controller was going to do, I would have told him I needed to extend due to weight and the vector would not have been necessary.

Title: FLC OF DC10 ON LOOP 1 DEP FROM LAX IS GIVEN A VECTOR BY ATC BUT WHEN CLRED BACK TO THE DEP IS UNABLE TO MAKE THE XING RESTR.

Narrative: TKOF RWY 25L AT LAX, NORMAL DEP (LOOP 1) DAGGETT TRANSITION. AT APPROX 6 DME AND ON APPROX 225 DEG RADIAL LAX (HDG WAS 235 DEGS) SOCAL DEP GAVE ME A L TURN TO 070 DEG HDG. NORMALLY IT IS 'TURN L TO COMPLY WITH LOOP 1 RESTRS, IE, 10000 FT AT THE LAX VOR.' AT THIS TIME I THOUGHT THE CTLR WAS GIVING ME THE TURN EARLY DUE TO TFC OR CHANGING TO THE LAXX 2 DEP. I KNEW AT 6 DME AND 463000 LBS I COULDN'T MAKE LAX VOR AT 10000 FT THIS CLOSE IN. CLBING THROUGH 5200 FT THE CTLR CLRED ME TO TURN L AND RESUME THE LOOP 1 DEP. AT 5700 FT I KNEW WE COULD NOT COMPLY WITH THE 10 KT LAX VOR RESTR. I ADVISED SOCAL IMMEDIATELY. HE (CTLR) SEEMED 'MIFFED' BUT GAVE ME A CLB VECTOR OF 090 DEGS FOR APPROX 5 MI THEN L TO 000 DEGS TO RESUME THE DAGGETT TRANSITION. NOTHING ELSE WAS SAID. CONCLUSION: I NEEDED TO USE THE FULL 10 NM ALLOWED IN ORDER TO MEET THE ALT RESTR AT LAX. HAD I KNOWN WHAT THE CTLR WAS GOING TO DO, I WOULD HAVE TOLD HIM I NEEDED TO EXTEND DUE TO WT AND THE VECTOR WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN NECESSARY.
