Narrative:
Flight ord-bwi. East of gpi, FL370, cleared direct mgw. I mistakenly selected mrb on FMC and went direct to mrb about 395 DME. At approximately 80 DME west of mgw, ZOB caught the mistake and turned us to 200 degree heading and cleared us to FL250, then cleared direct mgw to cross 60 mi west of mgw at FL250. We were now back on course and on the EMI arrival to bwi. I had mis-selected the correct NAVAID in the FMC. There were no TCASII alerts but we were not where we were supposed to be.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF A B737-300 FAILED TO FOLLOW THEIR CLRED DIRECT RTE DUE TO MIS-SETTING THE WRONG NAVAID IN THEIR ACFT'S FMC. ATC INTERVENED AND PROVIDED A NEW HDG TO GET BACK ON COURSE AND ALSO STARTED DSNDING THEM TO A LOWER ALT.

AT APPROX 80 DME W OF MGW, ZOB CAUGHT THE MISTAKE AND TURNED US TO 200 DEG HDG AND CLRED US TO FL250, THEN CLRED DIRECT MGW TO CROSS 60 MI W OF MGW AT FL250.
