Narrative:
Both pilots distraction going through FL180. Failed to reset altimeters from 29.92 to 29.49. As a result, aircraft leveled off 300 ft low at 11700 ft instead of 12000 ft. Heavy traffic, numerous vectors and change in clearance altitude and fix going through transition altitude contributed to distraction.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B767-200 DSNDING INTO ATL AIRSPACE DSNDS BELOW ASSIGNED ALT AS THE ALTIMETER IS NOT RESET TO BAROMETRIC PRESSURE WHEN LEAVING THE TRANSITION ALT.
Narrative: BOTH PLTS DISTR GOING THROUGH FL180. FAILED TO RESET ALTIMETERS FROM 29.92 TO 29.49. AS A RESULT, ACFT LEVELED OFF 300 FT LOW AT 11700 FT INSTEAD OF 12000 FT. HVY TFC, NUMEROUS VECTORS AND CHANGE IN CLRNC ALT AND FIX GOING THROUGH TRANSITION ALT CONTRIBUTED TO DISTR.
