Narrative:
Landing at altus municipal on a 3 mi final. Aircraft on downwind in sight. Airspeed 135 KTS. At 2 mi final aircraft on downwind turns base and asks me if I have him in sight. I tell him yes and to go ahead and land. I slow my aircraft to 90 KTS (30 KTS slower than normal approach speed). Thinking I could provide adequate separation I continue on a 1/2 mi final. I go around. This was a situation where I should have went around earlier. I didn't think closure rate with aircraft would be as rapid as it was. The other aircraft was a grumman. Conclusion -- I should have initiated go around earlier and on top of that flown a normal pattern instead of a straight in approach.

Title: AIR TAXI PLT MAKING STRAIGHT IN APCH TO NON TWR ARPT HAS ACFT TURN BASE TO FINAL AHEAD OF HIM. THINKING HE CAN SLOW DOWN AND SPACE HIMSELF HE CONTINUES. IN CLOSE PROX HE MAKES A GAR.
