Narrative:
ATC facility: ZAU or chicago approach. Location: 35 DME northwest of ord. Prior to reaching krena intersection, located on the janesville arrival, and I believe prior to janesville, we were cleared direct to ord. We were next cleared to cross krena at 9000 ft. This was confusing since we had already been cleared direct to ord, so we decided to cross 35 mi northwest of ord, abeam krena, at 9000 ft. We were initially indicating over 300 KTS in the descent, and it soon became obvious that we would be unable to slow to 250 KTS by 10000 ft and still make the 9000 ft restr. We attempted to inform ATC of our inability to comply with the restr, but I do not recall ever hearing any amendment to our clearance saying it was ok if we were unable to make the restr. We crossed abeam krena at 10000 ft, still in the process of descending to 9000 ft. I do not recall us ever being questioned by ATC. I did not decide to submit a report until after discussing this flight with a friend.

Title: FLC OF S80 IS ISSUED CLRNC DIRECT ORD THEN GIVEN A XING RESTR WHICH WOULD PUT THEM OFF A DIRECT RTE. THEY ATTEMPT TO DSND ABEAM THE FIX BUT CANNOT DSND RAPIDLY ENOUGH.
Narrative: ATC FACILITY: ZAU OR CHICAGO APCH. LOCATION: 35 DME NW OF ORD. PRIOR TO REACHING KRENA INTXN, LOCATED ON THE JANESVILLE ARR, AND I BELIEVE PRIOR TO JANESVILLE, WE WERE CLRED DIRECT TO ORD. WE WERE NEXT CLRED TO CROSS KRENA AT 9000 FT. THIS WAS CONFUSING SINCE WE HAD ALREADY BEEN CLRED DIRECT TO ORD, SO WE DECIDED TO CROSS 35 MI NW OF ORD, ABEAM KRENA, AT 9000 FT. WE WERE INITIALLY INDICATING OVER 300 KTS IN THE DSCNT, AND IT SOON BECAME OBVIOUS THAT WE WOULD BE UNABLE TO SLOW TO 250 KTS BY 10000 FT AND STILL MAKE THE 9000 FT RESTR. WE ATTEMPTED TO INFORM ATC OF OUR INABILITY TO COMPLY WITH THE RESTR, BUT I DO NOT RECALL EVER HEARING ANY AMENDMENT TO OUR CLRNC SAYING IT WAS OK IF WE WERE UNABLE TO MAKE THE RESTR. WE CROSSED ABEAM KRENA AT 10000 FT, STILL IN THE PROCESS OF DSNDING TO 9000 FT. I DO NOT RECALL US EVER BEING QUESTIONED BY ATC. I DID NOT DECIDE TO SUBMIT A RPT UNTIL AFTER DISCUSSING THIS FLT WITH A FRIEND.
