Narrative:
Landed on runway 3 at lyh with landing gear partially down. PIC was in right seat receiving flight instruction for CFI from ATP rated cfii in left seat. PIC selected gear down on downwind for runway 3. Trimmed nose up to compensate for pitch down due to gear. Completed checklist except for propeller and flaps. On final both pilots verified landing check complete. Navigation lights were on and gear down green light was very dim. Landing lights were on some time during sequence, gear motor circuit breaker opened and gear did not fully deploy. Green light was probably not on and yellow light was excessively dimmed. Pilots failed to adequately verify gear down and locked. No warning horn was heard due to headsets in use and high radio traffic. Distracted by instruction task and air traffic cognizance.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: INSTRUCTOR PLT TRAINEE IN A PIPER PA24 LANDED GEAR UP DURING INSTRUCTOR PRACTICE WITH A RATED INSTRUCTOR IN THE L SEAT. SINCE THE NAV LIGHTS WERE ON DUE TO APCHING DARKNESS, THE GEAR INDICATING LIGHTS WERE AUTOMATICALLY DIMMED AND DIFFICULT TO SEE. HOWEVER, THE GEAR CIRCUIT BREAKER HAD POPPED OUT WHICH LEFT THE GEAR ONLY PARTIALLY DOWN.
Narrative: LANDED ON RWY 3 AT LYH WITH LNDG GEAR PARTIALLY DOWN. PIC WAS IN R SEAT RECEIVING FLT INSTRUCTION FOR CFI FROM ATP RATED CFII IN L SEAT. PIC SELECTED GEAR DOWN ON DOWNWIND FOR RWY 3. TRIMMED NOSE UP TO COMPENSATE FOR PITCH DOWN DUE TO GEAR. COMPLETED CHKLIST EXCEPT FOR PROP AND FLAPS. ON FINAL BOTH PLTS VERIFIED LNDG CHK COMPLETE. NAV LIGHTS WERE ON AND GEAR DOWN GREEN LIGHT WAS VERY DIM. LNDG LIGHTS WERE ON SOME TIME DURING SEQUENCE, GEAR MOTOR CIRCUIT BREAKER OPENED AND GEAR DID NOT FULLY DEPLOY. GREEN LIGHT WAS PROBABLY NOT ON AND YELLOW LIGHT WAS EXCESSIVELY DIMMED. PLTS FAILED TO ADEQUATELY VERIFY GEAR DOWN AND LOCKED. NO WARNING HORN WAS HEARD DUE TO HEADSETS IN USE AND HIGH RADIO TFC. DISTRACTED BY INSTRUCTION TASK AND AIR TFC COGNIZANCE.
