Narrative:
During the takeoff roll on runway 15 at bangor, me, I noticed several deer crossing my takeoff path. The airspeed was below V1 and I aborted the takeoff. Unfortunately 1 animal was struck causing damage to the left engine and propeller. The engine was secured by pulling the fuel shutoff valve (condition lever was inoperative due to damage), and I directed the first officer to evacuate/evacuation the passenger on the right side of the aircraft by using the 2 overwing exits. There were no injuries to the passenger or crew. I immediately notified my director of operations and the FAA was also called in. The FAA classified the occurrence as an incident, and no action was taken against the flight crew or company.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF A BEECH 1900 AIRLINER (BE02), ABORTED THE TKOF AND EXECUTED AN EMER OVERWING EXIT OF PAX AFTER STRIKING A DEER DURING THE TKOF ROLL. THE ACFT'S L ENG COULD ONLY BE SHUT OFF BY CUTTING THE FUEL SUPPLY SINCE THROTTLE CABLE ACTION WAS AFFECTED BY THE DAMAGE. THERE WERE NO FLC OR PAX INJURIES DURING THE EMER EVAC.
Narrative: DURING THE TKOF ROLL ON RWY 15 AT BANGOR, ME, I NOTICED SEVERAL DEER XING MY TKOF PATH. THE AIRSPD WAS BELOW V1 AND I ABORTED THE TKOF. UNFORTUNATELY 1 ANIMAL WAS STRUCK CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE L ENG AND PROP. THE ENG WAS SECURED BY PULLING THE FUEL SHUTOFF VALVE (CONDITION LEVER WAS INOP DUE TO DAMAGE), AND I DIRECTED THE FO TO EVAC THE PAX ON THE R SIDE OF THE ACFT BY USING THE 2 OVERWING EXITS. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO THE PAX OR CREW. I IMMEDIATELY NOTIFIED MY DIRECTOR OF OPS AND THE FAA WAS ALSO CALLED IN. THE FAA CLASSIFIED THE OCCURRENCE AS AN INCIDENT, AND NO ACTION WAS TAKEN AGAINST THE FLC OR COMPANY.
