Narrative:

Hazmat form delivered to cockpit 15 mins prior to pushback (30 mins late). I checked the classes and weight and discovered that 2 corrosives, both batteries, exceeded our allowable weight and also quantity per aircraft bin. Called the cargo agent who is supposed to be the expert and he said he didn't know what was in our manual for allowable hazmat. We are supposed to mirror all departments as far as requirements go. Also, our allowable hazmat table references weight or volume. The agent had no idea of the volume of the corrosives. The shipper should be required to list both. We're instructed that the hazmat company agent is thoroughly trained, check six!
