Narrative:

After departing runway 31L at jfk, on published SID leaving 3000 ft, captain requested and so set climb thrust. Through approximately 4500 ft, engine #2 fire warning bell rang and light illuminated. Captain commanded engine fire, severe damage or separation checklist. He continued to fly while so and I completed the checklist. We also declared an in-flight emergency and requested vectors to return to land on runway 31R at jfk. The approach and landing phases of the flight as well as taxi were completed without incident and were uneventful.
