Narrative:

On leveloff at 9000 ft our indicated speed went above 250 KTS as we were anticipating a climb and handoff to center control which did not happen. Ric departure control turned our aircraft to the south as our aircraft was gaining on the air carrier ahead of us. The best way not for this to happen again is to maintain your proper speed below 10000 ft. Also departure control could have told us that you are following another aircraft on departure and to expect a leveloff as the center is not taking handoffs as quickly as usual.

Title: LR55B ACFT LEVEL AT 9000 FT, FLC ANTICIPATED A CONTINUED CLB AND ACCELERATED OVER 250 KTS. DEP CTLR INTERVENED AND ADVISED THAT THEY WERE GAINING ON ANOTHER ACFT AND GAVE THEM A HEADING VECTOR TO PREVENT LOSS OF SEPARATION.

Narrative: ON LEVELOFF AT 9000 FT OUR INDICATED SPD WENT ABOVE 250 KTS AS WE WERE ANTICIPATING A CLB AND HDOF TO CTR CTL WHICH DID NOT HAPPEN. RIC DEP CTL TURNED OUR ACFT TO THE S AS OUR ACFT WAS GAINING ON THE ACR AHEAD OF US. THE BEST WAY NOT FOR THIS TO HAPPEN AGAIN IS TO MAINTAIN YOUR PROPER SPD BELOW 10000 FT. ALSO DEP CTL COULD HAVE TOLD US THAT YOU ARE FOLLOWING ANOTHER ACFT ON DEP AND TO EXPECT A LEVELOFF AS THE CTR IS NOT TAKING HDOFS AS QUICKLY AS USUAL.
