Narrative:
We put a hawker in service 6 months ago. This week, I and another company captain were flying this aircraft. Upon return to home base the other captain, as he began to lower the door, noticed that something didn't look right. We closely examined the door and to our astonishment 1 of 4 locating/locking pins was broken off and painted over. This aircraft had a prepurchase inspection at a hawker service center, major maintenance at another service center, paint at a third maintenance shop, a conformity check by the FAA, several in-house inspections, a preflight inspection by ground support personnel on an average of 3 flts per week, and secondary preflts by flcs on each of these flts. Aircraft was repaired and returned to service. I fly the aircraft at least monthly and hindsight being 20/20 I noticed that the door did not close cleanly as other same aircraft do and I thought I was inspecting the perimeter of the door thoroughly on my preflts but I never saw it.
