Narrative:

As an emergency aircraft we were being vectored for a visual approach to runway 25R at lax to expedite landing with a heart attack patient on board. We leveled off at 4000 ft with the departure printed ATIS altimeter setting (sfo) set instead of lax setting. The controller immediately challenged our 'altitude cleared to' and we climbed back to 4000 ft. In the heat of battle one must be careful to pay attention to all the details.
