Narrative:
Overheated, burned engine #3 oil quantity gauge caused smoke and fumes in cockpit. Emergency declared and diverted to bhm as it was in sight to the west. No further problems and good support from all agencies, crew and ground support kept this potentially very serious problem from escalating.

Narrative: OVERHEATED, BURNED ENG #3 OIL QUANTITY GAUGE CAUSED SMOKE AND FUMES IN COCKPIT. EMER DECLARED AND DIVERTED TO BHM AS IT WAS IN SIGHT TO THE W. NO FURTHER PROBS AND GOOD SUPPORT FROM ALL AGENCIES, CREW AND GND SUPPORT KEPT THIS POTENTIALLY VERY SERIOUS PROB FROM ESCALATING.
