Narrative:
We were told by approach control to follow traffic for runway 17C but not cleared for visual approach. We were high and fast due to approach control keeping us high. Saw traffic and started turning to follow because passing through localizer course. Tower cleared us to land runway 17R with no conflict.

Title: MD80S FLC SEQUENCED FOR VISUAL APCH WAS HIGH AND FAST ON FINAL FOR DFW RWY 17C. DUE TO ACFT CONFIGN AND POS, ACFT OVERSHOT RWY 17C FINAL. APCH CTL RECOGNIZED CHANGING TFC CONDITION AND CHANGED MD80S TO RWY 17R. ACR LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.
