Narrative:
Pre departure clearance read: maintain 10000 ft, expect requested altitude 10 mins after departure. After takeoff while climbing at V2+10 at approximately 4500 FPM at approximately 2000 ft MSL, dfw tower issued an amended clearance to maintain 2000 ft. Captain disconnected autoplt and stopped the climb at approximately 2600 ft and descended to 2000 ft. We were then handed off to departure and given clearance to climb to 10000 ft. Tower issued 2000 ft climb restr far too late for us to be able to comply.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CAPT OF AN AIRBUS 300-600 OVERSHOT ALT RESTR GIVEN BY ATC DURING HIGH RATE OF CLB AFTER TKOF. RETURN TO ASSIGNED ALT WAS MADE AT ONCE. FLC BELIEVED THAT ATC DID NOT PROVIDE SUFFICIENT TIME FOR STOPPING CLB AND LEVELING OFF.
Narrative: PDC READ: MAINTAIN 10000 FT, EXPECT REQUESTED ALT 10 MINS AFTER DEP. AFTER TKOF WHILE CLBING AT V2+10 AT APPROX 4500 FPM AT APPROX 2000 FT MSL, DFW TWR ISSUED AN AMENDED CLRNC TO MAINTAIN 2000 FT. CAPT DISCONNECTED AUTOPLT AND STOPPED THE CLB AT APPROX 2600 FT AND DSNDED TO 2000 FT. WE WERE THEN HANDED OFF TO DEP AND GIVEN CLRNC TO CLB TO 10000 FT. TWR ISSUED 2000 FT CLB RESTR FAR TOO LATE FOR US TO BE ABLE TO COMPLY.
