Narrative:

Level at 5000 ft, vectors around thunderstorm, got a GPWS, told ATC (bay approach) I was climbing. Went up to 5500 ft, no GPWS. Got another vector wbound, descended to 5000 ft. ATC said that was a common occurrence in that area. I called and talked with supervisor. He said it had happened before, but since no other traffic in area, it was not a problem climbing.
