Narrative:
Aircraft was dispatched with left hand generator inoperative. Right hand generator and auxiliary generator operation were normal. En route, APU generator tripped, leaving right hand generator to power aircraft. All ohio valley stations were reporting low ceilings and reduced visibility due to rain or fog. St louis lambert was VFR. After discussion with maintenance and dispatch, we elected to continue to st louis lambert, declaring it nearest suitable airport in a point of time. Duration of flight was normal. Supplemental information from acn 394647: sent notice to dispatch about electrical system. They conferred with maintenance and chief pilot, then instructed us to land at 'nearest suitable airport in point of time.' after landing, was met by flight operations supervisor and recommended to file NASA report and debrief because we bypassed many airports in ohio valley. Aircraft logbook entry was made and instructed to 'red circle' item, grounding aircraft until electrical problem was fixed.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN MD80, WITH ITS L GENERATOR MEL DEFERRED, LOSES THE APU GENERATOR. THE FLC MUST ELECT TO CONTINUE TO DEST ARPT OF STL ON ONE GENERATOR SINCE ALL ENRTE STATIONS IN THE OHIO VALLEY HAD LOW CEILING AND REDUCED VISIBILITIES.
Narrative: ACFT WAS DISPATCHED WITH L HAND GENERATOR INOP. R HAND GENERATOR AND AUX GENERATOR OP WERE NORMAL. ENRTE, APU GENERATOR TRIPPED, LEAVING R HAND GENERATOR TO PWR ACFT. ALL OHIO VALLEY STATIONS WERE RPTING LOW CEILINGS AND REDUCED VISIBILITY DUE TO RAIN OR FOG. ST LOUIS LAMBERT WAS VFR. AFTER DISCUSSION WITH MAINT AND DISPATCH, WE ELECTED TO CONTINUE TO ST LOUIS LAMBERT, DECLARING IT NEAREST SUITABLE ARPT IN A POINT OF TIME. DURATION OF FLT WAS NORMAL. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 394647: SENT NOTICE TO DISPATCH ABOUT ELECTRICAL SYS. THEY CONFERRED WITH MAINT AND CHIEF PLT, THEN INSTRUCTED US TO LAND AT 'NEAREST SUITABLE ARPT IN POINT OF TIME.' AFTER LNDG, WAS MET BY FLT OPS SUPVR AND RECOMMENDED TO FILE NASA RPT AND DEBRIEF BECAUSE WE BYPASSED MANY ARPTS IN OHIO VALLEY. ACFT LOGBOOK ENTRY WAS MADE AND INSTRUCTED TO 'RED CIRCLE' ITEM, GROUNDING ACFT UNTIL ELECTRICAL PROB WAS FIXED.
