Narrative:

On takeoff from iah runway 32R I think we were told to turn right heading 120 degrees climb to 4000 ft. About halfway around (about 030 degrees), was told to turn right heading 180 degrees maintain 3000 ft. I think the tower might have said, or meant to say, left turn to 120 degrees. To prevent a turn the wrong way, if a turn is the long way to a heading the tower should make sure you know it is not the short way to your heading. The takeoff can be busy and it is easy to miss a heading turn you do not expect.

Title: MLG ACFT CLRED FOR HEADING CHANGE RIGHT AFTER TKOF. FLC UNDERSTANDS TO TURN R TO THE HEADING, WHICH IS ALSO LOGICAL SINCE IT IS THE SHORTEST WAY. DEP CTLR INTERVENED AND GIVES ANOTHER CLRNC WHICH MAKES FLC THINK, EITHER CTLR GAVE A WRONG DIRECTION TURN OR THEY MISUNDERSTOOD.

Narrative: ON TKOF FROM IAH RWY 32R I THINK WE WERE TOLD TO TURN R HDG 120 DEGS CLB TO 4000 FT. ABOUT HALFWAY AROUND (ABOUT 030 DEGS), WAS TOLD TO TURN R HDG 180 DEGS MAINTAIN 3000 FT. I THINK THE TWR MIGHT HAVE SAID, OR MEANT TO SAY, L TURN TO 120 DEGS. TO PREVENT A TURN THE WRONG WAY, IF A TURN IS THE LONG WAY TO A HDG THE TWR SHOULD MAKE SURE YOU KNOW IT IS NOT THE SHORT WAY TO YOUR HEADING.
