Narrative:

I was climbing out of san carlos airport to return to san luis obispo, ca. On my climb out I leveled at 3000 ft and contacted bay approach. The controller then informed me that I had entered sfo's class B airspace. He had me turn a westerly direction to get out of the airspace. The problem was caused by the different floors of the class B airspace around the san carlos area. One section starts at 2500 ft and the other starts at 4000 ft. In my haste I thought I was in the area where the floor starts at 4000 ft. I think this problem could have been solved if I was flying with the sfo area map instead of the sectional.
