Narrative:
I was cruising on IFR flight plan, RNAV direct to rst. I had departed dlh approximately 25 mins earlier at XA30 pm ct. I was in radar contact with ZMP at 8000 ft MSL. There was a broken deck of clouds below with tops estimated at 4000- 4500 ft MSL. Visibility at my altitude appeared to be 10+ mi. Suddenly I saw something flash by directly below me. I wasn't sure what it was until ATC called immediately after I saw this object to report I had opposite direction traffic 1 mi ahead of me at 7500 ft MSL. I reported that it probably had just passed beneath me. Potentially with tolerances associated with mode C altitudes and altimeters this could have been a serious incident. I would have appreciated earlier warning of the approaching traffic by ATC.

Title: A BE35 PLT AT 8000 FT HAS AN ACFT FLY UNDER HIM ON THE AIRWAY, JUST 500 FT LOWER, GOING THE OTHER WAY. ATC HAD NOT CALLED TFC UNTIL IT WAS PAST HIS ACFT.
Narrative: I WAS CRUISING ON IFR FLT PLAN, RNAV DIRECT TO RST. I HAD DEPARTED DLH APPROX 25 MINS EARLIER AT XA30 PM CT. I WAS IN RADAR CONTACT WITH ZMP AT 8000 FT MSL. THERE WAS A BROKEN DECK OF CLOUDS BELOW WITH TOPS ESTIMATED AT 4000- 4500 FT MSL. VISIBILITY AT MY ALT APPEARED TO BE 10+ MI. SUDDENLY I SAW SOMETHING FLASH BY DIRECTLY BELOW ME. I WASN'T SURE WHAT IT WAS UNTIL ATC CALLED IMMEDIATELY AFTER I SAW THIS OBJECT TO RPT I HAD OPPOSITE DIRECTION TFC 1 MI AHEAD OF ME AT 7500 FT MSL. I RPTED THAT IT PROBABLY HAD JUST PASSED BENEATH ME. POTENTIALLY WITH TOLERANCES ASSOCIATED WITH MODE C ALTS AND ALTIMETERS THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS INCIDENT. I WOULD HAVE APPRECIATED EARLIER WARNING OF THE APCHING TFC BY ATC.
