Narrative:

Aircraft had completed pushback from gate xx at phl, parked on taxiway 5, facing eastbound. Brakes were set, awaiting pushback crew to disconnect tow bar. Aircraft suddenly shuddered violently. Initial thought was malfunction with tow bar and tug. Flight attendants immediately called forward to let us know left wingtip had been struck by fuel truck. Tow bar was damaged in resultant collision and ground crew inquired as to whether we could return to gate on our own. After ascertaining there was no extenuating damage or fuel leaks, we returned to gate xx and disembarked passenger and crew. Resultant investigation revealed outer 5 ft of left wing completely severed due to inattention of fuel truck driver.
