Narrative:
This lesson was entirely devoted to pattern work. We were to be practicing both normal and short field takeoff and lndgs. We should also introduce single engine approachs for the first time. First we did 2 normal lndgs then we did 2 short field lndgs. Now it was time for the first single engine approach. Due to the fact that we were alone in the pattern I let the student continue flying the plane even though he had to struggle to keep airspeed and some kind of directional control. I had to constantly help him with airspeed and directional control. Previously we had practiced simulated engine out on altitude and he did handle it well. Now closer to the ground he did not handle it as well due to the fact that I constantly had to remind him about airspeed and directional control and also because we didn't have a normal pattern. We did not do the things that normally are connected to base and final. (Mixture full forward, propellers full forward, gear down and green.) I was too busy with correcting him and I never checked that he put the gear down. By the time I discovered it was already too late.
