Narrative:
While at 8000 ft, the left oil pressure low (cap) light came on and the oil pressure gauge was decreasing to the red low pressure line. When the pressure fell to the red oil pressure line, we decided it was time to shut the left engine down. ATC was notified and we were given clearance to jfk direct and the emergency equipment was called for. All checklists were completed and the plane landed without further incidents.
