Narrative:
Captain shut down engine due to oil leak. He told me to pick up all meal trays and prepare for landing. His communication skills were extremely poor. He could not or would not tell me if we needed to evacuate/evacuation, how much time we had or if it were a serious emergency. I had to inform the passenger of what was going on. I told them the truth. It was at least 15 mins before the deadheading captain in the cockpit made the PA. The information was very vague and the passenger were left wondering if they were going to be ok. It was not until 8 mins prior to landing that the captain informed the passenger we would be landing as normal and everything will be fine. Our captain avoided a debrief with the flight attendants after we had landed in el paso. I asked him 4 times for a debrief and he left the aircraft and was unseen for over 1 hour. His ability to command the flight crew was very unsettling. I hope I am never involved in a serious problem with him as my captain. His crew coordination skills were extremely vague, poor and lacked professionalism.
