Narrative:
Taxi out dsm, told to hold short of runway for landing B727. Held short. (Ceiling 100 ft, visibility 1/2 mi.) observed B727 land. Cleared into position to hold. Tower told landed B727 to contact ground. No response from B727. Tower cleared us for takeoff. On takeoff roll at V1 and 4000 ft from departure end of runway, observed what appeared to be the tail of the B727 protruding over the departure end of the runway. Continued rotation for takeoff uneventfully. After takeoff, heard B727 call tower and state that they had run off end of runway. Tower then told me to contact departure. No conflict, as events occurred, but possible conflict if I had aborted with a 'balanced field' performance situation.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: APPARENT LOSS OF SEPARATION BTWN A DEPARTING DC9 AND A B727 WHICH HAD RUN OFF THE END OF THE RWY WITH THE TAIL PROTRUDING OVER THE SAME RWY.
Narrative: TAXI OUT DSM, TOLD TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY FOR LNDG B727. HELD SHORT. (CEILING 100 FT, VISIBILITY 1/2 MI.) OBSERVED B727 LAND. CLRED INTO POS TO HOLD. TWR TOLD LANDED B727 TO CONTACT GND. NO RESPONSE FROM B727. TWR CLRED US FOR TKOF. ON TKOF ROLL AT V1 AND 4000 FT FROM DEP END OF RWY, OBSERVED WHAT APPEARED TO BE THE TAIL OF THE B727 PROTRUDING OVER THE DEP END OF THE RWY. CONTINUED ROTATION FOR TKOF UNEVENTFULLY. AFTER TKOF, HEARD B727 CALL TWR AND STATE THAT THEY HAD RUN OFF END OF RWY. TWR THEN TOLD ME TO CONTACT DEP. NO CONFLICT, AS EVENTS OCCURRED, BUT POSSIBLE CONFLICT IF I HAD ABORTED WITH A 'BALANCED FIELD' PERFORMANCE SIT.
