Captain of a super MD80 failed to follow flight plan routing departing a VOR fix due to not reselecting the new radial for the outbound course. ARTCC radar controller intervened and he noticed his error and immediately reset and intercepted the proper course.

Narrative:

ATC facility: ZNY. Location: 15 mi southwest bwz VOR. I was flying. We crossed the bwz VOR and I failed to change to the correct outbound course. I continued on the inbound course. ATC inquired if we were on a vector. We realized the mistake and returned to correct course. There was no traffic conflict.
