Narrative:
On a heading and descending from FL280, given intercept gep 103 degree radial inbound to msp 072 degree radial, then rejoin eau 3 arrival. We were comparing map display with raw data when given cross gep 50 DME at 10000 ft. By the time we saw just how tight the crossing was, idle and speed brakes were not enough to make it. Just getting ready to call center when he asked us if we were going to make it. Missed crossing by about 4 mi. Supplemental information from acn 401825: had been cleared to go direct to eau then the eau arrival to msp. Were subsequently given a heading off that course for traffic. Were then reclred by ZMP to fly a heading to join the gep 103 degree radial to join the msp 072 degree radial then the eau arrival to msp, and pilot's discretion to FL240. We were at FL280 and deviating around thunderstorms so I delayed descent. We built the course into the FMS and both went back to map again, and were now no longer using the gep VOR for course guidance and/or DME distances. Center then told us to start the descent now and cross the gep 103 radial 50 DME at 10000 ft, so I started us down at 2000 FPM while I tuned the VOR back to raw data and the gep VOR. We were descending at 5700 FPM to make crossing. Center asked if we were going to be able to make the crossing restr. We told him it was going to be close since we were 60 DME out at that point. He said if we could not make it, he needed to know ahead of time since approach would not accept us high. We were already leveling at 10000 ft but missed the crossing by 4 mi and/or 400 ft. Center didn't say anything and shipped us to approach control. Problem caused by going back and forth, FMS to raw data.

Title: AN FK100 FLC FAILS TO MAKE THEIR XING ALT AS CLRED. THEY MISSED XING RESTR, THE 103 DEG RADIAL OF GEP AT 10000 FT, BY 400 FT.
Narrative: ON A HDG AND DSNDING FROM FL280, GIVEN INTERCEPT GEP 103 DEG RADIAL INBOUND TO MSP 072 DEG RADIAL, THEN REJOIN EAU 3 ARR. WE WERE COMPARING MAP DISPLAY WITH RAW DATA WHEN GIVEN CROSS GEP 50 DME AT 10000 FT. BY THE TIME WE SAW JUST HOW TIGHT THE XING WAS, IDLE AND SPD BRAKES WERE NOT ENOUGH TO MAKE IT. JUST GETTING READY TO CALL CTR WHEN HE ASKED US IF WE WERE GOING TO MAKE IT. MISSED XING BY ABOUT 4 MI. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 401825: HAD BEEN CLRED TO GO DIRECT TO EAU THEN THE EAU ARR TO MSP. WERE SUBSEQUENTLY GIVEN A HDG OFF THAT COURSE FOR TFC. WERE THEN RECLRED BY ZMP TO FLY A HDG TO JOIN THE GEP 103 DEG RADIAL TO JOIN THE MSP 072 DEG RADIAL THEN THE EAU ARR TO MSP, AND PLT'S DISCRETION TO FL240. WE WERE AT FL280 AND DEVIATING AROUND TSTMS SO I DELAYED DSCNT. WE BUILT THE COURSE INTO THE FMS AND BOTH WENT BACK TO MAP AGAIN, AND WERE NOW NO LONGER USING THE GEP VOR FOR COURSE GUIDANCE AND/OR DME DISTANCES. CTR THEN TOLD US TO START THE DSCNT NOW AND CROSS THE GEP 103 RADIAL 50 DME AT 10000 FT, SO I STARTED US DOWN AT 2000 FPM WHILE I TUNED THE VOR BACK TO RAW DATA AND THE GEP VOR. WE WERE DSNDING AT 5700 FPM TO MAKE XING. CTR ASKED IF WE WERE GOING TO BE ABLE TO MAKE THE XING RESTR. WE TOLD HIM IT WAS GOING TO BE CLOSE SINCE WE WERE 60 DME OUT AT THAT POINT. HE SAID IF WE COULD NOT MAKE IT, HE NEEDED TO KNOW AHEAD OF TIME SINCE APCH WOULD NOT ACCEPT US HIGH. WE WERE ALREADY LEVELING AT 10000 FT BUT MISSED THE XING BY 4 MI AND/OR 400 FT. CTR DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING AND SHIPPED US TO APCH CTL. PROB CAUSED BY GOING BACK AND FORTH, FMS TO RAW DATA.
