Narrative:
Smoke in cockpit. Began diversion to rno and did appropriate procedures and checklists, coordinating all with cabin crew and passenger. Isolated problem to windshield heat. Turned off system, all smoke and odors stopped. First officer and I agreed we had idented, isolated and eliminated source of smoke, changed diversion therefore to sfo. Remainder of flight uneventful. Sfo maintenance changed windshield heat controller.
