Narrative:
Misinterped a rerte clearance given by clearance delivery on ground in ewr. Entered elliot direct cap VOR instead of elliot J80 cap as cleared. After crossing elliot intersection and flying direct cap for approximately 1 min, I realized my mistake and corrected course to join J80. I may have inadvertently exceeded the airway corridor between elliot and etx VOR by a small margin. This happened at XA00. At XB02 ATC gave us direct etx VOR. This was a mental error made by me, on the ground before takeoff, based on a misunderstanding by me of the clearance.

Title: CAPT OF A DC10-30 FAILED TO FOLLOW DEP RTE CLRNC AND NOTICED THE NAV ERROR WITHIN A COUPLE OF MINS AND STARTED CORRECTING WHEN ATC PROVIDED A DIRECT CLRNC TO THEIR NEXT FIX. NO CONFLICT KNOWN.
Narrative: MISINTERPED A RERTE CLRNC GIVEN BY CLRNC DELIVERY ON GND IN EWR. ENTERED ELLIOT DIRECT CAP VOR INSTEAD OF ELLIOT J80 CAP AS CLRED. AFTER XING ELLIOT INTXN AND FLYING DIRECT CAP FOR APPROX 1 MIN, I REALIZED MY MISTAKE AND CORRECTED COURSE TO JOIN J80. I MAY HAVE INADVERTENTLY EXCEEDED THE AIRWAY CORRIDOR BTWN ELLIOT AND ETX VOR BY A SMALL MARGIN. THIS HAPPENED AT XA00. AT XB02 ATC GAVE US DIRECT ETX VOR.
