Narrative:

Aircraft pitched up. Captain disconnected autoplt and manually flew plane, some injuries. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that maintenance control had called him. They stated that there had been an autoplt malfunction, the description of same escaped his technical expertise so he could not pass on any other pertinent information with regards to the equipment problem. He did state that the seat belt sign had been on, with the flight attendants standing in the galley, attending to some pre- service passenger duties. The injuries included some bone fractures of various sorts, including femurs, and some ankle and back injuries. All the flight attendants are recovering in an expected fashion. Supplemental information from acn 403065: in routine climb (500-700 FPM) aircraft pitched up (approximately 2 G's) hard. WX clear and smooth. All instruments (engine and flight) normal. 6-7 injuries in aft portion of aircraft. Returned to lax and fuel dump coordinated with center. Return uneventful. Medical assistance waiting at gate. Seat belt sign was on the duration of this flight. Supplemental information from acn 402925: some passenger and flight attendants were injured. Cause unknown. Flight from lax to hnl.

Title: A DC10 CLBING THROUGH FL310 HAS A SUDDEN 2 G PITCH UP EXERTED UPON IT. THE ACFT'S AUTOPLT WAS DISCONNECTED AND THE ACFT RETURNED TO LAX. 6-7 PAX AND FLT ATTENDANTS INJURED. A LOSS OF ACFT CTL.
