Narrative:
In may 1998, isp tower released an IFR aircraft which they had unknowingly issued a bogus routing. Isp tower was using tec route information from the automated ids-4 system. The system is 'hubbed' out of ny TRACON and ny TRACON is responsible for ensuring information on the ids-4 is current and accurate. In response to an earlier unsatisfactory condition report (ucr) ny TRACON management issued notice to ny TRACON personnel that, due to lack of staffing, they would be unable to keep information on the ids-4 current. I called several area towers that also use this ids-4 system, and none of them were aware that this information was not being updated. In my capacity as ny TRACON safety representative, I told ny TRACON management several months ago that if they were unable to keep information on this system current and accurate, then the information needed to be removed.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: RPTR CLAIMS N90 TRACON DID NOT NOTIFY LCL TWRS THAT IDS-4 WAS NO LONGER BEING UPDATED DUE TO LACK OF STAFFING. ON ONE OCCASION, AN ACFT WAS ISSUED AN INCORRECT ROUTING AS A RESULT.
Narrative: IN MAY 1998, ISP TWR RELEASED AN IFR ACFT WHICH THEY HAD UNKNOWINGLY ISSUED A BOGUS ROUTING. ISP TWR WAS USING TEC RTE INFO FROM THE AUTOMATED IDS-4 SYS. THE SYS IS 'HUBBED' OUT OF NY TRACON AND NY TRACON IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ENSURING INFO ON THE IDS-4 IS CURRENT AND ACCURATE. IN RESPONSE TO AN EARLIER UNSATISFACTORY CONDITION RPT (UCR) NY TRACON MGMNT ISSUED NOTICE TO NY TRACON PERSONNEL THAT, DUE TO LACK OF STAFFING, THEY WOULD BE UNABLE TO KEEP INFO ON THE IDS-4 CURRENT. I CALLED SEVERAL AREA TWRS THAT ALSO USE THIS IDS-4 SYS, AND NONE OF THEM WERE AWARE THAT THIS INFO WAS NOT BEING UPDATED. IN MY CAPACITY AS NY TRACON SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE, I TOLD NY TRACON MGMNT SEVERAL MONTHS AGO THAT IF THEY WERE UNABLE TO KEEP INFO ON THIS SYS CURRENT AND ACCURATE, THEN THE INFO NEEDED TO BE REMOVED.
